5 Ways to Stay Hydrated

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

Staying hydrated is an important part of maintaining our health & well-being. Around 60% of the body is made up of water & 90% of our blood is water, therefore, drinking more water is essential for healthy bodily function.

Staying hydrated is a great way to stimulate the digestive system, flush out bodily waste, maintain blood pressure, & protects your joints, brain, & kidneys. Water is also great for your skin health & can even boost performance during exercise.

The most common reason people become dehydrated is because we simply forget to drink water. Why drink water when you could have a soda instead?

However, going without water for an extended period of time can have negative affects on how you feel.

If you find yourself struggling to consume enough water, here are some tips that you can use to make your water intake easy & simple.

  1. KEEP A FULL GLASS/BOTTLE OF WATER BY YOUR BED

Drinking water first thing in the morning is a great way to rehydrate the body after a long night's rest. It's also a great way to kick start your metabolism and energize the body. Having a glass of water first thing in the morning can help wake up the body & flush out toxins. However, many of us find ourselves grabbing a cup of coffee before drinking some water. Try keeping a full glass of water/water bottle on your nightstand before you go to sleep. When you wake up, your water is already waiting for you. You don't even have to get out of bed to start your day hydrated!

2. MAKE WATER A PART OF YOUR DAILY ROUTINE

Think about something you do every single day & associate that with drinking water. For example, drink a glass of water before you take a shower or brush your teeth, or maybe bring a bottle of water with you for your commute to work/school. I like to drink a full glass of water when I take my daily vitamins. Find something in your routine that makes drinking water easy to remember.

3. ADD FRUIT TO YOUR WATER

In a world of sodas, juices, & energy drinks, water can sound like a boring option. Try adding some lemon, lime, or fresh berries to your water to give it some flavor. You could even add frozen fruit to your water instead of ice for a cool & refreshing drink.

4. MAKE JUICES

Another great way to add flavor to your water is by making juices. Just blend your water with your favorite fruits. Using fruits with high water content yield the best results. I like to use watermelon, strawberries, kiwis, & apples.

5. EAT YOUR WATER

There are so many plant based foods that have a high water content. Watermelon, berries, pineapples, cucumbers, spinach, apples, celery, & tomatoes to name a few. Snack on foods like these to hydrate yourself while also reaching your recommended nutrient intake.

Give these tips a try and let me know how it works for you!

Remember that wellness is a journey so, any small steps you take are steps in the right direction!

Take it day by day and find what works best for you!

Stay well & keep shining
